Family Day Canada 2026

Family Day is a regional statutory holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in five provinces in Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick. To honor family bonds and give people a chance to spend quality time with their loved ones.

The holiday originated in Alberta in 1990, It was introduced by the Premier Don Getty, with emphasis on the importance of family values. The third Monday in February has also been celebrated as Heritage Day, though it is not an official holiday, it is observed by some in celebration of the country’s collective history, architecture and cultural heritage.
