Black History Month 2026

Black History Month is an annual celebration that originated in the United States, which recognizes important people and events in African-American history and black people worldwide.

It initially lasted a week before becoming a month-long observation since 1970, which focuses on the contributions of Black people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks who fought for equality and justice.

The month-long celebration is also observed in Canada and Jamaica where it has received official recognition from governments, and more recently has also been celebrated in Ireland and United Kingdom in October.
