Super El Niño 2026

Daniel Obasi 1 min read

El Niño is a natural climate phenomenon that happens when the surface water of the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean becomes warmer than usual. This affects weather patterns around the world, sometimes causing hotter temperatures, droughts, heavy rainfall, and flooding.

Nigeria is set to experience hotter temperatures with its peak in December and it’s likely to persist through early 2027. Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has advised to;

Wear light clothing and stay in cool, shaded places.

Never leave children in parked cars.

Drink water regularly and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.

Watch out for weather warnings.

Stay cool, stay informed and look out for one another.
