Canada Day is a federal statutory holiday in Canada, it celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, when the three separate colonies of the United Canadas (Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada.
It was originally known as Dominion Day, the name was officially changed to Canada Day in 1982 as part of the patriation of the Constitution. This year marks the 159th anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
The holiday is celebrated with Parades, fireworks, barbecues, concerts, carnivals, fairs, and picnics. Patriotic displays with red-and-white clothing, flags, and face painting.
