Labor Day 2026

Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday of September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements in the United States.

The holiday emerged from the labor movement of the late 19th century, when workers were campaigning for better wages, safer workplaces, reasonable working hours, and greater labor rights. 

Some common activities include: Barbecues and cookouts, Beach and family trips, Community events and parades, Major Labor Day sale, Sporting event, Family gatherings

In Canada, Labor Day is also celebrated on the first Monday of September, and recognizes the contributions of workers and the labor movement. The Canadian holiday has roots in workers campaigns for better working conditions, shorter hours, and labor rights.
