International Youth Day is marked by the United Nations annually on August 12, to spotlight issues facing young people. It was established by the UN General Assembly in 1999, following a recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in 1998.

It is meant as an opportunity for governments and other organizations to draw attention to youth issues worldwide by organizing concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations.
A theme is adopted each year to raise awareness of issues affecting young people and their role in global development. The theme for 2026 is: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.
