Eid al-Kabir 2026

Eid al-Kabir also known as Eid al-Adha or the “Greater Eid” is one of the two major Islamic festivals, the other being Eid al-Fitr. It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to God’s command.

At the moment of sacrifice, God intervened and provided a ram instead. Which symbolizes submission to God, faith, and sacrifice.

The festival  falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijja every year and last for 3 days. It is referred to as Sallah in northern Nigeria and Ileya in the south and western Nigeria, public holiday has been declared by the government to honor the occasion. The day is marked by special morning prayers in the mosque, wearing new clothes, visiting family and friends, and sharing large festive meals.

All of us at Incognito Blog wish our Muslim readers a wonderful Sallah celebration.
